Collaborative project to establish epilepsy surgery programs in Peru

Since 2008, there have been collaborative projects involving Western University (London, Ontario, Canada), Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Neurológicas (Lima, Peru) and Hospital Nacional Edgardo Rebagliati Martins (Lima, Peru). The project has already established two epilepsy surgery programs. Neurologists and neurosurgeons have trained abroad (Brasil, Mexico and Canada). The surgery programs are fully independent. The collaboration has been focusing in the last four years in educational activities. The goal is to increase awareness and establish epilepsy programs in other parts of the country (not necessarily surgical ones) with the goal to create a national epilepsy surgery plan.
